Memphis Turns Into Oven as Heat Index Nears 115 Degrees
Memphis is walking straight into a heat cooker today, waking up in the upper 70s with thick, heavy humidity that makes 79°F feel a lot worse. Clouds early on should give way to a mostly sunny afternoon, and the high is expected to reach around 96°F. Factor in the humidity and the heat index is forecast to soar into the 110-115°F range during the hottest part of the day. An Extreme Heat Warning kicks in at 11 a.m. today and runs through 8 p.m. Tuesday, so this is a good time to cancel any plans that involve roasting on the sidewalk in the afternoon.

Old Farmer's Almanac predicts warmer than average fall. What to know in Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis
As temperatures continue to rise across much of the country, many Tennesseans may be wondering when sweater weather will finally arrive. They may have to wait a little longer, however, as long-range forecasts suggest warmer-than-normal conditions could persist well into the fall season. The Old Farmer’s Almanac recently released its 2026 fall forecast, offering an early look at the temperatures and precipitation patterns expected across the United States. "It won’t feel like fall everywhere: Warmer than average weather settles over the nation’s interior this September and October—from the Northern Plains through the Heartland and into the Deep South," wrote the Almanac. "Meanwhile, most of the eastern United States and the Pacific Coast are expected to be cooler than average." The Almanac is also predicting a drier-than-normal fall for much of the country. However, above-average rainfall is expected along the West Coast, across the central and northern Rockies, and in parts of Texas, with smaller areas of wetter-than-average conditions forecast for southern Florida and the Northeast. Here's what to know in Tennessee. When is the first day of fall? The fall equinox and the first day of autumn both occur on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Also known as the autumnal equinox ,
