DOBSON — Surry Central honored three senior softball players prior to an April 22 game against North Surry: Kaylin Moody, Kailei Zurita and Kylee Schendel.

“These girls are outstanding,” said Surry Central coach Greg Woodbury. “I’ve been with them since they were sophomores and they’ve all been a big part of the team and our success. KZ didn’t even play last year, she took a year off, and you see she came back hitting the ball like that as lead off.”

Moody, Zurita and Schendel are three of just six upperclassmen on the young Golden Eagles squad. Woodbury cited the leadership of his seniors as a big reason the team has gelled as well as they have, and are having fun while also competing at the highest level.

“They have set the tone,” Woodbury said. “This is the most together team that we’ve had since I’ve been here, from top to bottom. All of them. This just a good group of girls.”
