Dimmitt Bobbies lifter Allyson Jones represented DHS in top form this past weekend, claiming the THSWPA state championship gold medal, the first ever for DHS powerlifting. Ni’Khiyah Porras snagged a fourth-place state medal.
Jones competed in the SHW weight class, lifting a total of 1,015 pounds. Porras, 220 weight class, lifted 965 pounds. The total weights are a combination of four lifts – BWT, Squat, Bench and Dead Lift.
The Bobbies team, made up of five state qualifiers, including Nissa Sanchez, Karla Perez, Kimberly Solis, Porras and Jones, placed sixth overall at the state meet and were the top placing team out of Region 1. The competition was held in Frisco this past weekend.
The three other DHS lifters stayed in the top 10 placings with Sanchez placing ninth (123), Perez placing ninth (132), and Solis placing 10th (198).
Additionally, Perez Perez made THSWPA Academic All-State Second Team, maintaining above a 3.0 GPA while respresenting her team throughout her high school career.
The state meet was held in Frisco this past weekend with lifters from 59 3A schools competing. The top six teams, respectively, were Elkhart, Edinburg ICP, Natalia, Hebbronville, El Maton and Dimmitt.
Coached by Ruby Romero, the Bobbies team closed out their powerlifting season as Regional champions, winning numerous regular season powerlifting meets. This is Romero’s first year with the team; she was named Top Coach at the Regional meet.
