Fire breaks out at Faith Lutheran Church in Dickinson

DICKINSON, Texas – Firefighters in Galveston County battled a fire that broke out at a church in Dickinson Friday morning.

Officials with Dickinson Fire Department arrived at the Faith Lutheran Church in the 800 block of FM 517 at around 6 a.m.

Fire departments from League City, Santa Fe, and others assisted in battling the blaze.

Officials said the rear building of the church collapsed.

“It’s heartbreaking to see everything go up in flames in our office area. Thankfully our sanctuary right now is only a little water damage and smoke damage, as well as our fellowship hall,” said churchgoer Susan Leining.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

Church officials said they’ll be combining services with Trinity Episcopal Church in Dickinson until the building is repaired.

“I was here 10 minutes and a member from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church walked over and introduced herself to me and said if you need anything you can come worship with us and then I said well were planning vacation bible school in a couple of weeks and she said we can make that happen too,” Leining said.
