Towsley’s life is on display for all to see

Some people, like the semi-student band Fushigi, think it's fun to smash pumpkins. Within minutes of arriving at their Evergreen Street porch gig Friday night, the residents invited Fushigi to smash their largest porch pumpkin during the set. The five girls booked Fushigi after hearing them play during Welcome Week. One, political science senior Ava Miller, could've sworn she heard Geese frontman Cameron Winter's voice echoing down their street. It was that August evening that Miller and her roommates decided they needed to hear that band, eventually booking Fushigi on their own porch this past weekend to celebrate Miller's birthday. With two Smashing Pumpkins songs on the setlist and lead guitarist and marketing junior Tommy Rabaut sporting a Smashing Pumpkins T-shirt, Fushigi was quickly drawn to the idea of committing the act while playing a song from the band with its namesake. But they decided it would be too messy for their gear and the girls' porch. Until, during their sixth and last encore song, a reprise of the Pumpkins' "Cherub Rock," lead singer Jackson Quillen, lifted the gourd over his head and slammed it into the yard's sidewalk, which he said was the highlight of the night and "felt

MK Cannelle is still coming to Brighton. Here's the updated timeline

MK Cannelle is getting closer to offering artisanal pastries in Brighton. Kate Cagle, marketing manager and event coordinator for the business, confirmed via email to The Daily that the bakery's opening timeline now falls in March. The location's launch was delayed due to construction setbacks, according to Cagle. The business will occupy the main floor of a multi-unit building at 116 W. Grand River Ave. MK Cannelle is known for artisanal pastries and baked goods, with a menu that features croissants, cakes, tarts, sandwiches, breads, coffee and more. "Inspired by time-honored French techniques and elevated with a modern touch, our pastries are a true celebration of flavor and artistry," the business' website reads. The new location will employ 12-15 people, with operating hours 6:30 a.m.-8 p.m. — according to Cagle. Matt Knio, owner and chef, launched MK Cannelle in 2003. The newest location will join others in Detroit, Birmingham, Ann Arbor, Farmington, Keego Harbor, Northville and Rochester.
