DETROIT (WWJ) -- One person was taken to a Detroit-area hospital late Monday morning, after an officer-involved shooting on Belle Isle.

According to Michigan State Police, the shooting happened at around 10:40 a.m. as the Wayne County Sheriff Tether Unit was attempting to arrest a man who was wanted for absconding from parole.

Sheriff's officials said the man, who was wearing a tether, didn't show up to his jury hearing Monday morning in a criminal sexual conduct case.

When deputies approached the man to make an arrest, it's alleged that he pointed a long gun at deputies, who then shot him at least three times.

"He landed in the water, body started floating down the river," said sheriff's office spokesman, Ed Foxworth. "They jumped in and retrieved him and started preforming life-saving methods."

The man was taken to an area hospital where he was listed in serious condition.

No officers were injured, and no one in the public was hurt, police said.

The Michigan State Police, Special Investigation Section is handling the ongoing investigation into the shooting. MSP said a report will be sent to the prosecutor's office once the investigation is complete.

The man is in his late 30s or 40s, according to Foxworth. His name and city of residence have not been released.
