SIX The Musical Is My New Broadway Obsession

Disclosure: This post is written in collaboration with Broadway in Detroit

Not to be dramatic, but I’m pretty sure I’ve just seen my favorite show so far this year. Listen up, let me tell you a story … about my new musical obsession, SIX.

Now, I’ve heard nothing but phenomenal things about SIX for the last few years, and was giddy with excitement when I learned it’d be making its way to Detroit this year. I knew very little about the show going in, other than it was about Henry VIII’s six wives … but hey, I trusted all those critics, fans, and awards.

I did have a brief moment of skepticism, however. About a week or so before the show, I figured out that SIX would be in a non-traditional, pop concert-style format. What would that mean in terms of entertainment value? Was I just supposed to sit there for 80 minutes, trying to feign interest in a fictional girl group?

Oh, friends, let me tell you … there was no need to worry.

SIX isn’t just a concert. It’s a musical in the style of a concert. There are multiple storylines, real life-commentaries, and a healthy dose of show(wo)manship woven together in one of THE most dazzling spectacles I’ve ever seen on stage. It’s a musical, but you’re invited to dance and clap along. And it makes you feel just as excited and pumped up as if you’re sitting in the room with one of your favorite modern-day music artists … and lemme tell you: These artists are AMAZING.

So, enough with the gushing, because I know you wanna know the deets on tickets, showdates, and all that good stuff. Keep reading, because I’ve dropped it all below!

Winner of 23 awards (including the Tony Award for Best Original Score), SIX follows the wives of Henry VIII as they take the microphone to remix 500 years of historical heartbreak into a euphoric, 21st-century celebration. This new original musical has become a global sensation that theatre-goers everywhere have—ahem―been losing their heads over.

Created and originally presented in the UK, SIX made its way to North America in March 2020, when it closed due to the pandemic on what was supposed to be opening night. Following a reopening and successful run, SIX is now playing at the Lena Horne Theatre on Broadway in New York City in addition to engagements at theaters and on tour across the world.
