Random shooting at Detroit intersection kills 66-year-old driver, police working to track down shooter

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are searching for a suspect who randomly shot and killed a driver at a Detroit intersection late Friday night.

Detroit Police Cpl. Dan Donakowski told WWJ that officers received a report of shots fired around 10:50 p.m. near the South Liebold and Gilroy intersection.

Donakowski said a drive, identified as a 66-year-old man, and a passenger were inside of a vehicle at the intersection when an unknown suspect open fired.

The driver sustained a fatal injury. When police arrived at the scene, the 66-year-old man was pronounced dead.

Police are continuing to investigate the fatal incident. Exactly what caused the suspect to open fire is unclear -- police have not released if they have identified a suspect at this time.

No other information was provided as the investigation continues.
