The Detroit Lions made huge news on Wednesday when they reunited with a former fan favorite.

Detroit re-signed former Lions wide receiver, Marvin Jones. Jones, who last played in Honolulu Blue in 2020, returns to the team after a two-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The deal will be worth up to $5 million according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

Jones played with the Detroit Lions from 2016-2020. There, he spent five seasons and racked up 289 catches, 4,296 yards, and 36 receiving touchdowns. He led the NFL in yards per reception (18.0) in the 2017 season, which to this point is his best.

In 2017, Jones accumulated 61 catches, 1,101 yards, and nine receiving touchdowns.

As he returns to Detroit, the Lions are putting themselves in a great spot. The team hopes to take advantage of significant turnover in the division this year. Aaron Rodgers is expected to no longer be on the Green Bay Packers. The Chicago Bears are going to still likely be bad, so their stiffest competition may come from the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota lived a charmed life last year, and may not get all the bounces this season.

Detroit is banking on major improvements on both sides of the ball. They’ve made several key acquisitions this off-season, including cornerback Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

The NFL world reacted to the huge Lions news after it broke.
