The most disappointing part of this season for the Detroit Pistons hasn’t necessarily been the losses, though they haven’t been particularly enjoyable.

It’s the injuries, especially to young players, as the Pistons haven’t ever had their full roster this season and have since traded Saddiq Bey for center James Wiseman.

We’ve not gotten to see Cade Cunningham since game 12, and Hamidou Diallo, Isaiah Stewart, Marvin Bagley III, Isaiah Livers and Jalen Duren have all missed significant time as well. That’s not to mention the tank injuries that have kept Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks on the bench.

It’s hard to know what this team really is when you have guys like Rodney McGruder and Eugene Omoruyi in the starting lineup, which will make Troy Weaver’s job even tougher this summer.

With just nine games remaining, Detroit doesn’t have much time to build any kind of chemistry and will be very shorthanded again tonight against the Toronto Raptors.

Detroit Pistons injuries: Will Jalen Duren play vs. Raptors?

Jalen Duren had to miss the last game after bashing heads with Kevin Love and suffering a minor head injury.

He’s a guy the Detroit Pistons would love to get back into the lineup, as it will give them more data about how he fits with James Wiseman, and also give him a chance to sneak onto the All-Rookie Team.

They should get their wish tonight, as Duren is not listed on the Pistons’ official injury report. But plenty of his teammates are. Here is an updated list of the walking wounded for Detroit:

  • Rodney McGruder-Out
  • Bojan Bogdanovic-Out
  • Alec Burks-Out
  • Isaiah Livers-Probable
  • Isaiah Stewart-Out
  • Hamidou Diallo-Out
  • Cade Cunningham-Out

As you can see, Rodney McGruder, who has been red hot of late, has joined the “injury” list with Bogdanovic and Burks. I guess McGruder was playing too well and the Pistons didn’t want to risk an accidental victory down the stretch.

The only good news is that the oft-injured Isaiah Livers has been upgraded to probable. He has a chance to play a big role for Detroit next season, but he’ll first have to prove that he can stay on the court, which he hasn’t so far in his brief career.

One thing is certain, in addition to adding some talent this summer, the Pistons need to find some players who can stay healthy, as injuries have plagued them all season and submarined any chance they had to be competitive.
