DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police detectives are investigating after a driver was targeted by a shooter on the Lodge Freeway (M-10) in Detroit.

A 19-year-old man from Hamtramck says he was driving home, at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, when gunfire rang out at he was merging onto the eastbound Davison Freeway from the Lodge.

"There's where he heard two to three gunshots and something go over this head," WWJ's Mike Campbell reported. "He says he stepped on the gas, got to I-75, went north to Eight Mile, and that's when he got off and called 911."

MSP said the driver wasn't injured, but investigators did find three bullet holes in the teen's car — on the driver's side near the back of the vehicle.

Police shut down the eastbound Davison to look for evidence.

Campbell reports that troopers with a K-9 searched the freeway on foot, and appeared to find something between the Lodge and the Hamilton overpass.

"That is where I saw the K-9 stop and the officers pick up something, so there was definitely evidence on the freeway," Campbell said.

There is no description of a suspect at this time, and the teen said he didn't see a gun or a suspect vehicle.

The investigating is ongoing.
