Ada Boysen and Connor Rash are the Des Moines Register Athletes of the Week

Wapello's Ada Boysen and Gilbert's Connor Rash have been voted the Des Moines Register's Athletes of the Week for May 28-June 3 by Register readers.

Boysen was named the Register's Female Athlete of the Week after receiving 58.17% of the vote (23,456). She beat out Johnston girls soccer player Isabella Balsley, who received 33.39% (13,465).

Wapello softball pitcher Ada Boysen has been voted the Des Moines Register's Female Athlete of the Week for May 28-June 3 by Register readers.

Boysen had a big night in the circle for the Wapello softball team in a 4-1 victory at Highland on May 30.

She fired a three-hitter and racked up 15 strikeouts for the Arrows. She also went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs at the plate.

Rash was voted Male Athlete of the Week after receiving 74.17% of the vote (1,074). Johnston boys soccer player Carlos Martinez came in second with 11.33% (164).

Gilbert’s Connor Rash (18) celebrates with fans after scoring a goal against Davenport Assumption during the Class 2A boys state soccer finals on Saturday. Rash scored all three goals and helped Gilbert win the state title. He was voted as the Register's Male Athlete of the Week.

Rash had a game for the ages during Gilbert's 3-2 shootout victory over Davenport Assumption in the 2A state championship game Saturday.

Rash scored both Gilbert goals in regulation and he added the winning PK in the shootout to help the Tigers earn their first state championship.
