Cyclist hit by car near Bondurant dies from his injuries

A bicyclist who was hit by a car near Bondurant on Wednesday has died of his injuries.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office identified the victim Saturday as Gregory Hardy, 64, of Des Moines.

Emergency personnel were called to the 7400 block of Northeast 64th Street at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday where they found Hardy suffering from critical injuries, according to a news release from Capt. Ryan Evans of the Polk County Sheriff's Office. He was transported to a hospital but later died.

Evans said the driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with authorities as they investigate the source of the crash. An initial investigation found the collision occurred as Hardy traveled eastbound on the bike path to cross Northeast 64th Street while the car was going southbound, according to Evans.
