Police in Derry are investigating a smash-and-grab break-in at a card and game shop in Derry.
Jason West, owner of Midgard Hobbies and Games, said the store was called by police around 6 a.m. Saturday morning to be alerted that their front door had been smashed in.
West said a display case was smashed and valuable cards and packs from the game Magic the Gathering were stolen.
"It is the case that houses our highest value," West said. "It's a horrible situation to walk into, but you want to make sure everyone is safe. We have an awesome community here and the biggest thing is I want to make sure the community has a safe place to come and hang out."
According to West, some of the rare cards in the case were worth more than $1,000, but staff members are still looking through inventory to determine exactly what was taken.
West said some of the more valuable cards in the case, and other merchandise in the store, were thankfully left behind during the burglary.
Store staff said the combined value of the case's contents was around $11,000.
Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to contact Derry police.
