Traffic safety for blind area residents was at the top of mind Friday in Downtown Denville.
The Orientation and Mobility Excursion is a collaboration between the Vision Loss Alliance of New Jersey and the Denville Police Department.
The goal was to teach those who are vision impaired how to cross the street, while also teaching drivers what to watch out for.
"People tend to be isolated at times with vision loss, so it gives them a chance to work with the mobility instructors, using their cane to gain confidence, and it's important for the people in the community to be aware of people with vision loss and what to do if you see someone crossing the street with a white travel cane,” says Linda Groszew, program director of the Vision Loss Alliance of New Jersey.
All Vision Loss Alliance events are funded entirely by grants.
