Ryan Dineen Invited to USA Tryouts for U20 World Championships

DU women’s lacrosse freshman was among the team’s scoring leaders in 2023

DENVER – Freshman attacker Ryan Dineen of the Denver Pioneers women's lacrosse team has been invited to the United States' tryouts for the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championships.

Dineen is one of 99 players invited to take part in the three-day tryout for the U.S. Women's U20 National Team from July 7-9 at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland. The U20 World Championship is set for Aug. 15-25 in Hong Kong, China.

In her first season at Denver, Dineen led the team with 26 assists while finishing second in points (57) and fourth with 31 goals—marks that led all Pioneer freshmen. She was also tied for first on DU with a .463 shooting percentage and added 13 ground balls. Dineen ranked third on the squad with 13 free-position goals, which were tied for the ninth-most in a season in program history.

She finished the 2023 campaign on a 14-game point streak (25g/23a) and recorded 29 goals and 24 assists in the final 17 games of the year, which included four hat tricks and a pair of eight-point performances on April 5 versus Butler (2g/6a) and April 16 at Xavier (4g/4a). In the NCAA Tournament, Dineen registered eight points (4g/4a) in four games to help the Pioneers advance to their first Final Four in program history.

Dineen was selected to the All-Big East Second Team and was named the Big East Freshman of the Week three times during the 2023 season.

The Huntingtown, Maryland, native joined Denver after playing four years of varsity high school lacrosse at the Severn School and suiting up for the Maryland United club team. She was named to the Inside Lacrosse Freshman Power 100 Watch List prior to the 2023 campaign.

Historically, the U.S. U19 women's squad has won five of the seven world championships conducted by World Lacrosse from 1995 through 2019. World Lacrosse has since adjusted the age groupings for this championship up to the U20 age level.

The 99 players invited to the tryout come from 14 states and the District of Columbia, and they represent a total of 29 colleges through their current teams or commitments. This is the most experienced team in U.S. history with the increase in age level.
