Gut Reaction

This is a favorable contract for the Broncos because they didn't fully guarantee every dollar in the first year of the deal. Theoretically, the Broncos could still get out of the deal if Dixon doesn't perform well in training camp.

That's why, even with the decision to rescind the exclusive free rights tender for Corliss Waitman, it's possible the Broncos bring in a rookie punter to compete for the job.

If Denver doesn't bring in another punter, Dixon's remaining base salary would become fully guaranteed under the vested veteran rule. But the Broncos could still move on in 2024 with little dead money.

Overall, this is a very good contract from the Broncos' perspective, one that doesn't even put Dixon in the top 15 among veteran punters, in terms of APY salary.
