Adam Thielen Had 'Conversations' with Broncos Before Joining Panthers

Denver continues to sniff around veteran WRs.

Two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Adam Thielen revealed in an interview Monday that he had "conversations" about signing with the Denver Broncos while on the free-agent market.

This, before agreeing to a three-year contract with the Carolina Panthers.

“There was the Broncos, Cowboys — I had conversations with those teams and a few others,” Thielen said on the Pat McAfee Show, via Pro Football Talk. "Again, the Panthers just felt like the best fit and it all kind of just worked out. It all happened kind of quickly. I didn’t know when it was going to happen and it kind of all came at once. But, again, my family, my wife, my kids, we’re so excited to go there.”

Undrafted out of Minnesota State in 2013, Thielen tallied 534 catches for 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns across 101 starts for the Vikings. Although entering the downslope, his age-33 campaign, the former All-Pro remains a lethal red zone threat, having pulled down 30 TDs over the last three years.

That Denver sniffed around Thielen, and Allen Lazard before him — both possession receivers — does not say much for disgruntled starter Courtland Sutton, a months-long trade candidate who might soon be on the move.

Despite emphasizing offense amid a $200-plus million spending spree, the Broncos have only added one new WR to the room, inking reserve-type Lil'Jordan Humphrey on March 7.
