No one was injured after shots were fired when officers responded to a call to break up a rowdy pool party at an apartment complex Thursday, according to a police report.
At about 9:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to Redpoint Denton, an apartment complex at 500 Inman St. A caller stated that there was a large group of people, who appeared to be juveniles, drinking at the complex’s pool. The caller also said they smelled weed.
When officers arrived, they saw a large crowd in the pool area and around the clubhouse. Officers entered through the clubhouse to the pool area.
As an officer was about to address the crowd to ask them to leave, the report states, multiple shots of gunfire sounded close by. The crowd scattered to nearby exits. The officers shouted verbal commands for the crowd to take cover.
Once backup arrived to secure the perimeter, police searched the area. On the pool house balcony directly above where the officer had been standing when the gunfire sounded, police found four shell casings.
Police did not receive any reports of injuries or property damage. They interviewed multiple witnesses at the scene, some of whom were juveniles and some of whom were adults. The shooting is still under investigation.
It does not appear from the Denton Police Department’s media arrest report that police made any arrests or gave out any citations related to the allegations of alcohol consumption by minors or marijuana possession. Police spokesperson Amy Cunningham also said the incident report did not make any mention of charges or citations.
