Road projects still underway in Hocking County

The following Ohio Department of Transportation construction projects are anticipated to impact traffic in Hocking County. All outlined work is weather permitting. City installs more speed humps this week under new ordinance

County answers lawsuit over alleged injury to transit passenger

NEW LEXINGTON — The Perry County Commissioners and Perry County Transit have responded to a lawsuit, brought against them by a woman who claims she was injured due to the negligence of an employee of the transportation service who was trying to get her wheelchair off a PCT vehicle and down a ramp. Plaintiff Janet Ann Wainwright filed her complaint in Perry County Common Pleas Court on May 8,and then filed an amended complaint on July 29. The commissioners and PCT filed an answer on Aug. 5. The lawsuit states that on or around May 10, 2024, Wainwright was riding in a PCT vehicle taking her from a New Lexington restaurant to her home. When the PCT vehicle arrived at Wainwright’s residence, it says, the driver attempted to transport Wainwright, who was in a wheelchair, down a ramp to exit the vehicle. It alleges that the employee failed to properly secure the wheelchair or make sure it was facing the right direction. She then “tripped, slipped, and/or otherwise lost her balance,” falling on top of Wainwright and/or her wheelchair and causing Wainwright to be “propelled uncontrollably forward.” As a result, the complaint alleges, Wainwright fell out of her wheelchair and

'It's killing everybody.' Higher fuel costs squeeze Muskingum Co. residents

Gas prices are climbing again, but they have yet to reach 2026's previous high. According to a survey by GasBuddy, a gas crowdsourcing site, the price of gas has risen 17.2 cents per gallon nationwide in the last week, averaging $4.25 per gallon on Monday, Sept. 14. That is up 19 cents from last month and $1.14 per gallon higher than a year ago. It's become a reaggravated pain point for motorists that have seen a 45% increase since the U.S.-Iran conflict began in late February. However, prices have not yet eclipsed 2026's current high of $4.56, which peaked in late May, or the six-year high of $5.01 in June 2022 after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to USA TODAY. In Muskingum County, the available prices were lower than the statewide and nationwide numbers and averaged around $4.08 on Sept. 14, but some individual stations were approaching it.
