COUNTY COMMISSION: Road repairs discussed, collector reminds public of tax deadlines
The Dent County Commission held a regular meeting May 25. After the meeting was called to order at 9 a.m., the commissioners reviewed the agenda and previous minutes. District One Commissioner Wes Mobray suggested an addition to the minutes, adding the name of Boyd’s Seal Coatings, the company where the commission purchases chip and seal oil. The minutes were then approved with the addition.
Dent County may see 911 system improvements

COUNTY COMMISSION: Wood visits regarding Current River project, Courthouse lawn events approved
The May 18 meeting of the Dent County Commission was called to order at 9:05 a.m. in the commission chambers at the Dent County Courthouse. During the public comment period of the meeting, President of the Dent County Historical Society Deloris Gray Wood returned to brief the commission on developments in the cost estimates for her project “Telling the Story of the Current River from the Road”. The project will feature interpretive signs telling the history of the area which will be placed in significant locations around the Current River area. In previous meetings, the commission indicated that the county would provide the labor to install the signs as a donation, which would count as in-kind matching for the grant that funds the project. Since then, Wood and the commission have been discussing specifics such as materials. Wood brought new material estimates before the commission and said that instead of the four-inch posts mentioned in the last meeting, the signs would utilize three-inch square tubing as posts. District One Commissioner Wes Mobray commented that it looked like quality material.

COUNTY COMMISSION: News from U.S. Capitol given, treasurer reports sales tax
The Dent County Commission held a regular meeting on May 15 at the Commission offices at the Dent County Courthouse. There was no meeting on May 8, since county offices were closed in observance of the birthday of former president Harry S. Truman. The May 11 meeting was also cancelled due to lack of quorum; one commissioner was out of town.
Funds from sale of seized firearms go to county
Sheriff Bob Wells and Prosecutor Andrew M. Curley presented a check for the sum of $1,003.93 to Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams on May 11. The funds are to be placed into the general revenue fund for Dent County and were collected resulting from the arrest and prosecution of James D. Walker for unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to reports from the Dent County Sheriff’s Office:. • On May 1, a deputy responded to Seville Care Center on Highway 72 for a report of medication missing from the facility. This an open investigation and suspect information is pending.
COUNTY COMMISSION: MoDOT sweeps glass from county roads; Voter ID cards mailed
The Dent County Commission held a regular meeting on May 4 at the Dent County Courthouse. After the agenda and minutes were approved by a 2-0 vote, Presiding Commissioner Gary Larson shared that the Salem Library is accepting regular household batteries for recycling. Batteries may be deposited into the receptacle on the left side of the front desk at the library during their regular business hours. The library will not accept lithium batteries (such as those found in cell phones and other rechargeable devices), car batteries, or any battery larger than nine volts.
HEALTH CENTER BOARD: Headrick’s resignation accepted, officers elected
The Board of Trustees of the Dent County Health Center held a regular meeting on April 20. The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman Bob Parsons. In attendance were Parsons, Bob Gravley, Dennis Floyd, Zach Moser, and Roma Jones. Board members Kim Smith and Sandra Headrick were not in attendance.
Electric vehicle chargers coming to Roaring River
The Department of Natural Resources continues to reach new milestones in its goal of expanding access to electric vehicle charging stations in the Show-Me State. Within Missouri’s share of the Volkswagen Trust Fund, about $6 million was made available for EV charging infrastructure installations. One of the first steps was to identify areas of the state that would need charging infrastructure. In consultation with stakeholders and electric utilities, the department set a goal of installing 22 charging locations as a part of a minimum practical network of EV charging infrastructure. Eleven EV charging station installations have been completed since July 2021 and are online, one is nearly complete and contracts have been awarded for 10 others.
