Westbound I-70, approaching I-81, to be closed over weekend

A section of westbound Interstate 70 will be closed and detoured for 48 hours, starting Friday night, Oct. 16, to allow for a drainpipe to be installed, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration. The work is happening at mile marker 27, near Bower Avenue and the Interstate 81 interchange, according to a state highway release. Westbound I-70 will be closed in that area starting at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, and continuing through 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, weather permitting. Drivers heading west on I-70 will be detoured at Exit 28 onto Downsville Pike (MD 632). To get back to I-70 west and to get to I-81, heading north or south, drivers can turn left from the exit to be guided onto southbound Downsville Pike by a flagging operation, according to state highway. Drivers will be guided to the four-way stop at Downsville Pike and Lappans Road (MD 68), where they can turn right onto Lappans Road. From there, they can continue toward I-81, past the intersection of Lappans Road and Governor Lane Boulevard/Spielman Road.
