Two teenagers seriously injured in rollover crash

DEER PARK, Wash. -- A 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy were seriously injured in a crash near Deer Park just after midnight Sunday, and the 16-year-old could face multiple charges.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, a 16-year-old driver and 17-year-old passenger were driving and crashed on N. Short Road near W. Enoch Road around 12:30 a.m. Both were taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said through their investigation, they believe the driver was going nearly double the speed limit of 45 mph, lost control and hit a utility pole guide line. That caused the vehicle to roll, hit a fence and a parked car before hitting a tree and stopping. SCSO says the collision also sent a decorative boulder into a nearby garage.

The sheriff's office said the 16-year-old driver was in violation of his restricted driver's license and possibly under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. Speed is also considered a factor.

Deputies said the driver is still receiving medical attention and not yet charged, but could face charges as the investigation continues including vehicular assault.
