Montana Ballet Company to bring haunting fall show to stage in Bozeman
BOZEMAN, Mont. — Montana Ballet Company is in rehearsals for its fall performance in Bozeman, with shows set for Oct. 30 and 31 at the Ellen Theatre. The production, "Un/Dead and Un/Forgiven," brings together three spooky works in one performance: "Dracula," "The Raven" and Giselle. The company is framing the show as a Halloween-season performance. Melissa Bowman, executive and artistic director of Montana Ballet Company, said the program took shape around an unexpected theme. "As I was putting the program together, it was really interesting because I was looking for spooky-themed, interesting ballets. And then it all came together in this very unusual thread of tragic love," Bowman said. Bowman said the show gave Bozeman audiences a chance to see a different side of the company. "It's just different, and I hope they'll see this other side of us that we really want the the Bozeman audiences to get to know. It's very different for us, the movement quality and the types of dance," she said. Dancer Gates Northrup is taking on several major roles in the performance, including as the titular raven. "She is mean. She's almost nasty. She's taunting the poet, telling him his lover will never return,"

BILLINGS, Mont. — Families looking for Halloween fun this weekend will have a chance to enjoy games, costumes and prizes while supporting local causes at a Billings event. The second annual Kidz Zone Trunk or Treat and Dance Party is happening Friday Oct. 23. The event will feature decorated vehicles, games, cake walks and a dance party, giving kids a chance to celebrate Halloween after dark in a family-friendly setting. Kidz Zone owner Amanda Harmala said the idea came from wanting to give children a chance to experience Halloween lights and decorations during an evening event. “There aren’t any trunk or treats at night. Most of them are during the day. And the kids really like to see all the lights and the fun things that glow. So we thought we would have a safe place in the parking lot to be able to put one on. And that was at night,” Harmala said. Along with the Halloween activities, The adults in attendance will have opportunities to win prizes donated by local businesses. Giveaways include gift baskets featuring items from multiple local businesses and a set of tires valued at $1,000. Organizers say the donations give businesses a chance to
