A Community Mourns: Honoring the Life of Douglas 'Doug' A. Fish
The small town of Vining, and its neighbor Parkers Prairie, are united in grief as they announce the passing of a revered local figure, Douglas 'Doug' A. Fish, at the age of 80, on November 29th. Crash near Carlos injures Miltona man on Friday afternoon
(Carlos Township, MN)--A crash late last week in Douglas County has injured one person. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the crash took place Friday afternoon on Highway 29 at Maple Lane in Carlos Township. A Ford F-150 pickup driven by Daniel Weinkauf, 43, of Miltona, was traveling southbound on Highway 29, while a Chevy Malibu, driven by Samuel Hinnenkamp, 20, of Eagle Bend, was also traveling southbound on Highway 29 when the two vehicles collided. Weinkauf reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Alomere Health.

Lady Battlers Start Season With Two Losses
The Battle Lake girls basketball team started the new season with a home game against the Park Christian Falcons. The Battlers fell behind early and were never able to recover. The Falcon´s aggressive full court defense created a number of Battler turnovers that they were able to convert into early offense. By the half, the Falcons had established a 20-40 lead. In the second half, Battle Lake cleaned up some of the turnovers and played a more even period. By the end of the game, the Falcons left town with a 71-40 win.
Thiel's Team Record 38 Points Leads Perham to 67-60 Win at Underwood
Willow Thiel established another new scoring record for the Perham girls' basketball team as she poured in 38 points on Tuesday night to lead the visitors to a 67-60 win over the Rockets in Underwood. “I thought we played extremely well and didn’t back down from a very good Perham team,” reported Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland. “Thiel’s foot work and body control in the post is fun to watch, but not fun to coach against. Coach Super and his staff do a great job of finding ways to isolate her.”
Cowboys Maintain Halftime Advantage for 59-44 Win Over Battle Lake
Breckenridge held Battle Lake to just 15 first half points as they held a 29-15 advantage at the break. The Cowboys were able to maintain that lead throughout the second half, finishing with a 59-44 victory over the Battlers. “The first half defense was a big key for us, being able to get an early lead against a scrappy Battle Lake team,” acknowledged Breckenridge Head Coach Jordan Christensen. “Holding them to 15 in the first half allowed us a cushion to withstand their run in the second half.”
