NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Dali, the cargo ship that caused the deadly Baltimore bridge collapse on March 26 , has officially left the Port of Virginia.

The ship arrived to the Port of Virginia in late June for repairs, and is expected to head towards China, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Officials with the Coast Guard also told 10 On Your Side they will provide a 500-yard safe zone around the Dali up until the Chesapeake Bay Lighted Whistle Buoy , where the cargo ship will then travel on its own to China.

The safe zone will consist of three tug boats not affiliated with the Coast Guard, as well as two additional Coast Guard crews — one from the Portsmouth station and one from Station Little Creek.

A recent lawsuit, filed in Maryland, states the owner of the Dali cut corners on repairs, resulting in a power outage shortly before crashing into the bridge.
