WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — DC Ghosts announced that it has completed its acquisition of “one of America’s most haunted houses”—the Villisca Axe Murder House in Iowa.

The history of the house dates back to one summer night in 1912 when eight people, including six children, were brutally murdered in their sleep. Despite several investigations and two trials, the case remains unsolved.

The murders are one of the most chilling crimes in American history.

According to U.S. Ghost Adventures , the home was restored in the 1990s, allowing visitors to experience it as it was on the night of the murders.

Over the past several years, the murder house gained the attention of many across the country, eager to experience the eerie home for themselves.

“The house seems to have a life of its own. From my own experiences and what guests have shared over the years, there are unexplained sounds, movements of objects, and even physical touch that occurs to those who dare stay the night,” said Johnny Houser, who has managed the Villisca Axe Murder House for two decades, in a press release.

Even though the house is not in the District, the Halloween season leads ghost explorers to seek their own adventures. To experience the murder house, visitors can book an overnight stay or a tour online .

DC Ghosts explores the most iconic sites and haunted stories that have shaped the District’s past. Its ghost tours take explorers through the past of the nation’s capital while making eight stops.
