    Overturned tractor-trailer caused major backup on I-495 in Fairfax County

    FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Traffic was backed up on Interstate 495 for several miles after a tractor-trailer crashed in Fairfax County on Monday morning.

    According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the truck overturned at mile marker 43.5 and blocked all northbound lanes, near the George Washington Memorial Parkway Exit.

    Virginia State Police told DC News Now that a tire blew, and the truck overturned on its side.

    As of 8:25 a.m., traffic was at a standstill and I-495 North was shut down, as crews worked to remove the truck from the road.

    VDOT said traffic was backed up for about six miles.

    In an update just before 9 a.m., the department said all northbound traffic was turned around and was being detoured off the Interstate.

    Around 11 a.m., VDOT announced that all lanes on I-495 North were reopened.

    There were no reported injuries.
