Local event celebrates 50 years of transforming communities

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — An event to celebrate 50 years of Community Development Block Grants is being held on Saturday.

Montgomery County Community and Economic Development, alongside the cities of Dayton and Kettering, is hosting a celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of Community Development Block Grants.

The federal-aid program has transformed communities since 1974, including here in the Miami Valley. Annual grants are given to states, cities and counties to develop urban communities by improving living environments and expanding economic opportunities..

On Saturday, April 27, MCCED hosts a celebration and resource fair, showcasing how CDBGs have transformed Montgomery County communities. Through federal grants, the county has received aid for blight removal, inclusive playgrounds, beautification projects and more.

The event is held at the Dayton Bike Yard, located at 1437 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd. in Dayton. Food trucks and live music will be featured, along with a resource fair.
