DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A pedestrian strike Thursday night in Dayton left one person with minor injuries and another taken into custody.

According to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center, Dayton Police responded around 10:29 p.m. to the area of East Fifth Street and Wayne Avenue on a report of a pedestrian strike.

According to the Dayton Police Department, a vehicle allegedly failed to stop as a pedestrian was navigating the crosswalk. The pedestrian was carried almost 20 feet before coming to a rest on the street. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries.

The vehicle allegedly drove off from the scene twice: after making initial impact with the pedestrian, which prompted a witness to chase down the vehicle and confront its driver; and again, after returning to the initial scene and fleeing as police arrived.

The driver of the vehicle was later taken into custody by police. They were cited for the crash and allegedly operating their vehicle while intoxicated.
