Authorities reported that the 16-year-old was driving a 2012 Lexus 250 when he rear-ended a Honda CRV. The preliminary investigation shows that the impact caused the CRV to spin off the roadway and roll into a wooded line.

Officials said the 47-year-old driver of the CRV, and his front seat passenger, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The rear passenger of the CRV — identified as 62-year-old Rosa Delia Torres — died at the scene. Police reported another passenger in the backseat was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Both passengers in the backseat were not wearing seatbelts.

According to Metro police, the teen driver showed signs of impairment at the scene. Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine if it was a factor in the crash.

The 16-year-old and his male passenger were taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
