Police in Davenport are making changes to the scene of a presumed deadly apartment collapse in the downtown district. Saturday, police notified the public that fencing securing the area may be moved, forcing some holding vigil to move as well. Police say it is to help with the movement of equipment needed on the site.
The FAA has now implemented a temporary flight restriction (TFR) within a mile radius of the apartment, saying they could impede the recovery effort.
Thursday, Iowa Task Force 1 (IA-TF1), an urban search and rescue team, went to the partially collapsed building at 324 Main St. with dogs trained to find any remaining survivors or bodies.
There are still three people unaccounted for who are believed to be in the building. The chief of IA-TF1, Rick Halleran, didn't share what the dogs found in the debris, but said that phase one of their mission was successful.
"That has allowed us to move to the next phase of our mission," said Chief Halleran. "Shoring, securing the building for control and recovery."
City permits show that repair work had started on the building just days before it collapsed; construction crews were working to fix a separation between the exterior brick and the interior walls.
