USC is the maker of its own destiny

On Oct. 31, USC football proved they could win on any given Saturday. That doesn’t mean they will. USC’s blowout loss, 24-7, at Wisconsin a week before felt like a requiem for head coach Lincoln Riley, but, in college football, everything is subject to change. The Trojans’ 30-18...

LOS ANGELES - With the 2028 Olympics approaching, the Los Angeles City Council wants a plan for addressing encampments near venues and transit routes and identifying resources to move more unhoused residents into housing. A motion approved Friday, Nov. 6, gives senior city officials and relevant departments 90 days to outline the effort. The report must identify potential funding for interim and permanent housing and establish a proposed schedule for putting the plan into action.Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson introduced the motion, which covers preparations for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The assignment puts housing capacity alongside the logistics of outreach and encampment resolution. Council members also asked staff to seek Los Angeles County's help expanding capacity in homelessness programs.Councilwoman Ysabel Jurado, chair of the Health and Homelessness Committee, said the preparations should help unhoused residents."Instead of pushing unhoused neighbors to the wayside outside of public view, we can start taking meaningful, proactive measures to confront the crisis with newfound urgency, accountability and coordination," Jurado said.Officials must explain how outreach and encampment resolution would proceed around Olympic venues, transit hubs and transportation corridors, including the timeline and process. Newsom announces a state ‘strike force’ to smooth path for 2028 Olympics

On a weekday morning in Sacramento, the paperwork that usually crawls between agencies was suddenly treated like a starting gun. Gov. Gavin Newsom said California would stand up a Newsom Olympics strike force to clear delays standing between Los Angeles and the 2028 Games. The group, led by Jamie Callahan, is meant to push permits, transit work, security planning, and venue questions through a system famous for taking its time. For a city that has promised the world a Games in less than two years from the announcement window described in state coverage, patience is no longer a civic virtue. It is a liability.

Are the USC Trojans playing college football today?

Are the USC Trojans playing college football today? No they are not. The Trojans get another weekend off in the Big Ten. USC won't play again until next weekend, when the Trojans face Indiana at 3:30 p.m. Eastern and 12:30 p.m. Pacific on CBS. The last time USC had a week off, the Trojans didn't use their break very well. They did not play on Saturday, October 17 after their October 10 win at Penn State. They came back to the gridiron on Saturday, October 24 at Wisconsin and were pancake-flat on offense in a brutal 24-7 loss. Wisconsin threw for only 58 yards in that game and still dominated the Trojans. With Indiana not having a settled or ideal quarterback situation, the Hoosiers might not throw for a lot of yards in their own right against USC, but IU - like Wisconsin - has a strong and very capable defense. The key to USC-Indiana is likely to be USC's offensive line, which no-showed at Wisconsin but then turned around and played a very strong game against Ohio State, helping the Trojans win by a double-digit margin (30-18) on a night when quarterback Jayden Maiava was not especially impressive. Maiava
