MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - In today’s Jet-Setting with Jenn, we’re talking about Mobile’s newest airline - Avelo. So - what is it? Avelo is a low-cost airline created by one of the co-founders of another low-cost airline, Allegiant. And it’s still fairly new, just officially starting in 2021. And one of their biggest marketing features is running flights out of smaller airports. So that’s just one thing that made the Mobile International Airport such a great location. Also an interesting note about their name. Avelo means hazelnut in Spanish, but that’s not what this airline means. The root words, ave has some meanings for bird, velo meaning swift, and led to Avelo meaning swift bird.

Mobile Saenger unveils summer classic movie series for July, August
The Mobile Saenger Theatre’s summer movie series return in July with an eclectic roster of comedies, dramas and action flicks running through August. The schedule calls for films to be shown at 7 p.m. Thursdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for children younger than 12 and seniors over 60. Foley dedicates new kids park
FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) - The brand new children’s park in Foley officially opened Saturday morning with a dedication ceremony. The Foley City Council voted on May 1 to name the park for Sara Thompson, a second-grade teacher who worked to get the original Foley Kids Park built. Thompson taught for 20 years at Foley Elementary School before retiring. She passed away in 2022.
