1 dead after pickup hits oversized load semi near Danville

NEW WINCHESTER, Ind. — A deadly crash has closed U.S. 36 in both directions near State Road 75, just west of Danville, after a collision between a pickup and an oversized load semi-truck.

According to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department, the crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday morning on U.S. 36 just east of the intersection with State Road 75.

The Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department said that preliminary investigation shows that a blue Chevrolet pickup was traveling westbound on U.S. 36 when it crossed the center line for unknown reasons and struck the semi.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead on scene. They have been identified as 64-year-old Alan Blackledge of Coatesville.

A passenger was also in the pickup who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The semi-driver wasn’t injured.

The highway was closed for an extended period of time during the investigation.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
