DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Danville Fire Department said they’ve been experiencing an unusual number of fires lately.

Last month, they had nearly 34 incidents. Fire Chief Aaron Marcott said there have been a high number of blighted homes on fire. The department is asking the community to keep an eye out for danger and to report what they see.

“It puts firefighters in really difficult position because, in a sense, the fire started somehow. And so we need to make sure that everybody’s out,” he said. “Whether or not you’re doing mischief or not is, you know, you deserve to have all the care that everybody else would have. And those buildings generally contain hazards for firefighters that don’t exist in normal functioning homes.”

He said the fire department is continuing to investigate other fires that have occurred.
