Wolters helps Bulldogs to win over Danville in front of MLB scouts

By Fred Kroner

With more than 20 major league baseball scouts in attendance on Monday (March 20) at Danville Stadium, Mahomet-Seymour senior Blake Wolters made an impressive showing in his first pitching assignment of the spring.

Wolters pitched a three-inning no-hitter – getting nine outs by strikeout – and issued one walk as the Bulldogs crushed Danville, 15-0. Wolters threw 33 of his 55 pitches for strikes and his velocity was recorded at 95 mph.

He also helped himself at the plate, slugging a double and a grand slam home run. He drove in five runs.

Wolters was staked to a 12-0 lead before he threw a pitch in the bottom of the first inning.

According to BVM Sports, Wolters is the fourth-ranked senior baseball player in the state, regardless of position. He has signed with the University of Arizona, but is considered a possible selection in the June major league amateur draft.

Other offensive heroes for M-S were Tyson Finch (2-for-2), Alex McHale (2-for-2) and Ben Wagner (2-for-3). Carter Selk scored three runs. Mateo Casillas scored two runs.

M-S (3-1) returns to action on Saturday (March 25) at 11 a.m. against Normal University High. Wolters is scheduled to be the starting pitcher.
