Don Guarino: A dark cloud hangs over Gilmanton
The peasants had hoped their wishes were heard by the Lord of the Castle. Instead they are being punished for speaking up. The peasants had asked the rulers in the Castle to stay within the services provided last year. This made the rulers angry. Every year the peasants enjoy a parade and fireworks in July. This year the Constable with the mustache said the peasants needed more gold to pay for the safety services at this joyful gatherings. This is the first time in history that more gold is needed to pay for safety services which had been paid for with taxes. It will be thousands in gold or suffer the wrath of the rulers and go without the gathering. Our beloved Park and Swimming Hole has been greatly diminished. This is what the Constable with the mustache said, “The Park is Gone. They don’t need to worry about mowing, electricity, plumbing, opening the bathhouses, swimming lessons, there will be nothing.” Another punishment, the Lord and the Constable with the mustache decided the dump is closed on Sundays. Many peasants only have time on Sunday to bring their ox and wagon filled with trash. Also there has been talk of not having enough gold to haul trash, yet there is talk of a new building (30,000 gold coin) within the dump. There were 281,000 gold coins left over from last year's services, yet the Castle cries, "Not enough coins to pay this years services." Oh yes, there have been other threats from the Castle to punish the peasants. The Castle could be closed on Fridays to save candles.
