Lady Vikings break streak

DANBURY — North Stokes’ softball team broke a nine game losing streak against South Stokes on Tuesday, April 23 with a 5-3 Northwest 1A Conference victory.

The Sauras’ got on the board first when Elle White scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning after Rebecca Amos lifted a fly ball to centerfield.

North Stokes responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Caroline Mabe and Kandence Woods reached on errors and then Kinley Mabe’s double to left field plated both Mabe and Woods making it 2-1. Kinley Mabe eventually scored on consecutive passed balls making it 3-1 after three innings of play.

The Vikings added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kinley Mabe walked to lead the inning off and advanced to second when Madelyn Spencer grounded out to third base.

Emily Rogers singled moving Kinley to third base and then she scored on an error by the Sauras. Rogers made it 5-1 after scoring on a hit by Rori Long.

The Sauras made a push in the top of the sixth, platting two runs. Mackenzie Smith singled with one out and then Abby Eaton was hit by a pitch. Both runners scored when Olivia Martin roped a double to left field making it 5-3. That would be the closest the Sauras would get as the Vikings retired the side in the top of the seventh on two ground outs and a pop up.

Kinley Mabe led the Vikings by going 2-for-4, with two runs, 2RBIs, and a walk. Kadence Woods, Emily Rogers, Layla Fox, Rori Long, and Emma Lawson had one hit each. White and Long had an RBI each.

Mackenzie Smith, Ryleigh Pinnix, Olivia Martin, and Elle White had one hit each for the Sauras. Martin added two RBIs, and Rebecca Amos had one.

Kinley Mabe earned the win from the mound going the distance. She pitched 7IP, gave up four hits, allowed three earned runs, a walk, and four strikeouts.

On Monday, North Stokes easily disposed of visiting North Caroline Leadership Academy with an 11-1 win.

Kinley Mabe was dominant in the circle striking out 13 while only giving up three hits and an unearned run in the top of the first.

Mabe and Layla Fox led the Lady Viking with three hits each. Mabe was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Fox was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

South Stokes picked up a pair of wins with a sweep over Starmount. The Sauras won a 6-5 nine-inning thriller on Friday, April 19, and then 12-9 on Tuesday.

On Friday, the Sauras tied the game in the fourth with two runs and then again with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

South Stokes secured the win when Rebecca Amos singled on a hard ground ball in the ninth inning, she stole second, and then moved to third on a passed ball. Amos scored the winning run after Mackenzie Smith laid a sacrifice bunt towards the pitcher.

During Monday’s game against the Ram, the Sauras scored eight runs in the first two innings and then added four more in the top of the fourth.

Sydney Patterson and Rachel Humphries led South Stokes with two hits each.

North Stokes finished its’ regular season at 10-11 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Sauras set at 8-14 overall and 8-3 in league play. South Stokes will travel to Elkin on April 26 to finish their regular season against the Elks. The conference tournament will start next week with games being played at Starmount.
