Sauras, Vikings split Regular Season Games

DANBURY — North and South Stokes squared off against each other on Tuesday, April 18, but the game was suspended due to the field lights going out with the Sauras leading 4-1. The teams picked up where they left off when South visited North on Friday, April 19.

South Stokes’ pitcher Maddox Nelson had his way against the Vikings striking out 12 and only walking one. He gave up five hits and one run over six innings of work.

The Vikings opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when Cash Dalton tripled and scored on Jackson Lester’s double to right field.

The Sauras responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tucker Monday tripled scoring two runs, William Tilley’s singled scoring another, and Cameryn Phipps fielder’s choice scored the final run.

Cash took the loss for the Vikings. He went four and two-third innings, giving up four runs on four hits, striking out five and walking four.

William Tilley, Samuel Kidd, Reid Tilley, and Monday had one hit each with Monday collecting 2RBIs, and William Tilley and Phipps one RBI each

Jackson Lester was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Cash Dalton, Jamison McBride, and John Pratt had one hit each.

During Friday’s game, the Vikings scored nine runs in the first three innings including seven in the third inning alone.

The Vikings scored a run in the bottom of the first inning but allowed the Sauras to briefly take a 2-1 advantage in the top of the second inning on two errors and a single by Monday.

North Stokes big inning came after McBride was struck by a pitch, Evan Woods singled, Justin Aaron, Dalton, Lester, and McBride each walked scoring a run.

South Stokes picked up three runs in the top of the sixth inning drawing the deficit to 9-5. Kidd doubled, Nelson singled, Monday was hit by a pitch loading the bases. Reid Tilley reached on an error scoring one run and then a walk to Phipps added another. The final run came on a fielder’s choice by Ryan Duggins.

The Vikings put the game away in the bottom of the sixth scoring six runs and winning by the 10-run slaughter rule.

They collected three hits in the inning along with the three walks issued by South Stokes and the help of an error and a hits batsman.

South Stokes is 5-14 overall and 5-6 in league play. The Sauras play on April 25 at 6:30 p.m. against N.C. Leadership Academy, and then finish the regular season against Elkin on April 26. North Stokes (10-11, 5-7) will play East Surry on April 24 and host North Surry on April 25.
