DANA, Ind. (WTW)/WAWV) — A U.S. Army Pfc. who had lost his life in World War II has been identified and returned to his hometown. 

According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), Leonard E. Adams from Dana, Indiana was 25 when he lost his life in the war. Accounted for in July 2020, Adams was assigned to Headquarters Company, 3^rd Battalion, 157^th Infantry Regiment, 45^th Infantry Division in January of 1945. 

After being surrounded by the German military, all but two men in Adams’ division were either killed or captured. The collection of remains was impeded due to the ongoing war and Adams had been declared non-recoverable May of 1951. 

Adams was identified using dental, anthropological, and DNA analysis. Adams has since been returned home and will be buried in Radcliff, Kentucky at a date yet to be determined.
