Adam Schefter shares his thoughts on Bill Belichick-Cowboys rumors

The NFL world has been buzzing since Sunday night about the possibility of Bill Belichick becoming the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and one prominent NFL insider believes it could happen.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter spoke on “The Pat McAfee Show” Monday about the rumors of Belichick landing in Dallas. He said he believes it could work and that hiring Belichick would be a “logical” move for the Cowboys if Jerry Jones decides to move on from Mike McCarthy.
“I definitely think it could work if that’s what both sides wanted to happen. I don’t think it would be an issue,” Schefter said. “Jerry made it work with Bill Parcells. Bill Parcells made it work with Jerry. I think the same would be true if that was the path that Jerry decided that he wanted to go down.
“Bill is the greatest coach of all time. If they decided to make a change, to me, he would be in play. … If Jerry makes the move, that’s gonna be the guy that everybody looks to right away as a prime candidate for that job — if he makes a move. It’s just logical. Jerry wants to win. How many more chances is he gonna have to win? If you can win and go hire arguably the greatest coach of all time, would that make sense?”

There has been speculation all season that McCarthy might find himself on the hot seat if the Cowboys had another early playoff exit. Dallas was blown out 48-32 by the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium on Sunday night, and Belichick happens to be available. Fans started the Belichick speculation in the first half of the game, and several prominent reporters expect the Cowboys to at least give it some thought.
McCarthy has led the Cowboys to three consecutive 12-win seasons. Jones probably would not give much thought to firing the coach if bringing in Belichick were not an option, but the 71-year-old is out there. The timing couldn’t be much worse for McCarthy.
