MMA veteran Nate Diaz admits that he felt 'lazy and tired' when he started packing on the pounds for his upcoming boxing match with social media star Jake Paul.

The fight takes place on August 5 at the American Airlines Centre in Dallas, Texas.

Their contest has been contracted to take place over ten rounds, with a catchweight of 185-pounds. The fight is taking place 10-pounds above the light heavyweight limit and 15-pounds below the cruiserweight limit.

For most of his career in the UFC, the 38-year-old Diaz fought at 155 and 170, which gives Paul a size advantage in the fight.

Diaz detailed that he was packing on weight during training camp and it affected his body.

"I've been eating a lot of food and getting heavier,' Diaz told the Raw Talk podcast. "I did feel [slower] at first when I was eating and trying to get big because I was on a weight gain diet, eating all kinds of stuff to get as big as I could.

"To a certain point I was like 'Dude, I'm lazy and tired and I'm working out like a meathead right now.' I was lifting weights, bodybuilding and all that stuff. It made me tired and lazy from carrying the extra weight, just made me drowsy.

"At a certain point I just eased up on it and created a new plan, then I had a lot more energy and started doing more things. I was eating a lot at first and blowing up as much as I could, now I do a fast for half the day and get down when I get down.

"Before it was every two hours and I was exhausted everywhere I go, like before I was about to train. I was doing the stuff that I love to do and I'm sitting there like 'Man, I don't even want to go.'"
