A huge boxing match is scheduled for this summer between former UFC fighter Nate Diaz and celebrity boxer Jake Paul. Diaz left the UFC last year and seemed to be searching for a big boxing opportunity. He had been going back and forth with Paul for some time, even before his contract with the UFC was up. Now he has a date set for what could be the most anticipated celebrity boxing match of the year. These two are scheduled to face off inside the ring on August 5 in Dallas, Texas. Now, however, this location may not be satisfactory to Diaz.

One thing, besides fighting, that Diaz is known for is his passion for marijuana. Now it seems he may have to quit that leading up to his fight. The bout will be regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR), which means that both fighters will need to undergo testing from the TDLR and the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). Both will be tested for marijuana.

Nate Diaz is suggesting a location change after the marijuana testing exemption was denied

Diaz and his team were aware of the testing protocols for Texas and believed that they would be able to get an exemption. The exception was filed and denied by the commission. Now it seems Diaz is pushing for a change of venue and state altogether.

“We gonna have to move states,” he wrote on Twitter.

Throughout his UFC days, Diaz had not tested positive for any banned substances. For years marijuana was not allowed in or out of competition and in fact, Nick Diaz had to serve a long suspension after testing positive for marijuana metabolites. The ruling on marijuana usage has been relaxed over the past few years, but in Texas, with this fight, if he were to test positive it could result in a suspension of his license, fines, and possible negation of his win if he defeats Paul. Paul has not mentioned anything in public about possibly moving locations for the big fight.
