Governor Greg Abbott has signed a bill giving official state recognition to the Koreatown neighborhood in northwest Dallas.

The state designation applies to the area along Royal Lane from from Harry Hines Boulevard to Luna Road for the next ten years. The area has a large number of businesses owned by Korean-Americans.

"Dallas has one of the largest Korean communities in America. Their hard work has made Koreatown an important economic engine for our city. This designation officially recognizes that work by the State of Texas and builds upon the positive momentum of this neighborhood," said State Rep. Rafael Anchia, who was one of the bill's sponsors.

The City of Dallas installed street signs in the neighborhood in both English and Korean earlier this year.

"The Koreatown Designation in northwest Dallas is an important step in recognizing the impactful business contributions of the Korean community," said Dallas City Council Member Omar Narvaez.
