Dallas is revising the estimate of what it will really cost to rebuild the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.

Voters approved an increase to the city's hotel occupancy tax to rebuild the convention center and pay for improvements at Fair Park.

The original goal was to raise $1.5 billion for the convention center. City staffers are now recommending issuing $1.4 billion worth of bonds saying the slightly lower amount will give them a cushion in case of changes to the economy.

They plan to ask the Dallas City Council to issue the first set of bonds this fall, but point out that over the life of the project they could get new economic estimates that could raise the bond capacity.
