A Dallas program that is working to get more neighborhoods internet access is being honored for its efforts.

Smart Cities Connect has awarded the City of Dallas the 2023 Smart 50 Award, the top award is for the city's Red Cloud Neighborhood Smart Cities Pilot Project.

The project set up the first smart community in Southeast Dallas where all streets and sidewalks were reconstructed with multiple high tech
quality-of-life improvements, like community wifi access to nearly 200 homes, air quality monitors, and surveillence cameras set up at certain locations around the neighborhood.

The city says the improvements will help enhance safety in the community as well as connectivity.

Dallas city leaders say they're honored to accept the award as it works to expand the project to other neighborhoods across the city.
