Dallas ISD officials adjusted the base academic calendars for both the 2023-24 and the 2024-25 school years during a March 23 board of trustees meeting.

Both calendars were finalized in December, but the district asked parents and guardians to provide additional feedback about the 2023-24 school year in late February. The district decided to adjust the calendars because tax-free weekend was the weekend after the start of the previous version of the 2023-24 calendar. Based on the feedback results for the 2023-24 calendar, adjustments were also made to the 2024-25 calendar.

According to the newly approved calendars, the base 2023-24 school year is now expected to start Aug. 14 with 174 days of instruction, including 85 in the fall semester and 89 in the spring semester. Winter break is still scheduled to be held Dec. 25-Jan. 9, 2024, with the final day of school now set for May 24, 2024. The 2023-24 academic calendar includes a week off for Thanksgiving from Nov. 20-24, a weeklong spring break from March 11-15, and two fair days for elementary and secondary schools on Oct. 12 and 13. Annual holidays, such as Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day and Juneteenth, are also included.

Under the base 2024-25 academic calendar, the school year will start Aug. 12, 2024, with the school year set to end May 23, 2024. Winter break is scheduled to be held Dec. 23, 2024-Jan. 3, 2025. The calendar includes a week off for Thanksgiving from Nov. 25-29, 2024, and a weeklong spring break from March 10-14, 2025.
