The Dallas County District Attorney's office is not commenting on it, but well-known Oak Cliff baker Manuel Tellez has pleaded guilty to stabbing an up-and-coming Dallas artist to death in 2022 in exchange for a probation term.

Dallas Police say Tellez stabbed the victim, identified as 52-year-old Anthony Moreno, multiple times in an alley behind 1330 Kings Highway early on April 3, 2022, killing Moreno. Tellez left the scene, changed clothing, and then returned to the scene where he poured gasoline on the victim, then lit his body on fire.

The two men had known each other and had just done a live streaming broadcast on Instagram about sugar artwork when they went into a nearby alley, where the crime happened. Reports say the two men shared a “romantic interest” in the same woman.

Tellez was to have stood trial for murder last week, but is now on probation for the next eight years after pleading guilty to a manslaughter charge.
