family-fishing

Anyone with fishing equipment, but doesn’t have a license can test out the waters for this weekend with no penalty.

Department of Natural Resource Officer for Dallas County Dusting Eighmy says that the free fishing weekend runs from Friday through Sunday. Eighmy explains that someone without an updated fishing license can legally fish, but all other regulations remain in place. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that its a perfect time to take family members fishing or introduce a friend into the sport of fishing.

“It’s a great time, like I said, just to get some new people out there. Try it out. We’re pretty close here to the Des Moines metro area or Waukee has a lot of great ponds. There’s some great opportunities for fishing for people located within the city limits of these places that have great fishing ponds.I recommend going to our Iowa DNR website. There’s a fish local map that shows all the public waters in the city of Des Moines and Ankeny and Altoona.”

Eighmy recommends anyone wanting to fish all year round to purchase a license which can be located at their gooutdoorsIowa.com website.
